 Copyright and design patents act 

  1. Copyright is an act that allows the creator of music, film and art to have full control of how to their work is published and lasts for a fixed number of years. A trademark is a word, logo or slogan owned by a companies used to represent it, and you can renew it every 10 years. A patent is a type of intellectual property giving the right to someone allowing people to use their work for a limited time enabling disclosure of the intervention. 

  1. Cc by – allows anyone to use, remix, adapt, etc along as they give the credit to the creator.  

Cc by-sa – same rules as CC BY but you must then re-license what you did under the same act.  

CC BY-NC – allows anyone to remix, adapt, distribute, etc but only for non-commercial use only.  

CC BY-NC-SA - This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for non-commercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. If you remix, adapt, or build upon the material, you must license the modified material under identical terms 

CC BY-ND - This license enables reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use 

CC BY-NC-ND - This license enables reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, for non-commercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator 

 

  1. Computer software copyright lasts for 50 years from the year of creation 

  1. Some creations that fall under the creative commons license can include books, photographs, movies, music, plays etc.  

  1. One example of breaches of the copyright act is youtube hosting movie clips and music. Another is Napster having licensed music without the permission the owner

The Federation Against Software Theft helps software businesses raise their profile and protect their IP. The FAST Legal Advisory Group provides a conduit for legal professionals in the IP space to network in the software ecosystem, share expertise and participate in industry events
